Devlog #2 – Weapon EVOLUTIONS!!


Hey everyone!

This one is a big update on Flesh Reaver’s development and it's about run progression.

I knew that the progression within the runs felt a bit too flat, and I wanted players to feel more empowered and more excited about the choices they make mid-run. So I’ve spent my time working on weapon evolutions.

Now, each weapon can evolve into three unique branches, giving you more control over your playstyle and adding some much needed variety to the combat.

Here’s how the current evolutions look:

Whip Evolutions:

  • Stinger – Transforms the whip into a fast, thrust-style weapon for aggressive and more controlled attacks.

  • Catabone – Shortens the whip’s range but allows it to throw projectiles.

  • Whip+ – Keeps the whip's classic style but amps up its power and effectiveness.

Lance Evolutions:

  • Lance+ – A straight up upgrade with improved stats and reliability.

  • Bouncy Bone – Makes your lance bounce even more off walls, but slightly reduces your normal dash power.

  • Reaver Hormone – Increases movement speed and attack rate, but comes at the cost of a shorter dash.

Ranged Weapon Evolutions:

  • Automatic – Converts your ranged weapon into a full-auto rifle.

  • Shotgun – Fires spread shots.

  • Sniper – Increases bullet damage and range, but with a slower attack rate.

This is just the beginning. My plan is to expand on these branches, letting you evolve your weapons even further. I'm hoping this adds a stronger sense of growth and decision making during each run, and brings more replayability overall.
